Ecological production and social responsibility are going together. Certificates for organic cotton also cover aspects of a fair production. And labels for a fair production are aiming ecological goals as well.That’s why, Banshy chose to work with Continenal Clothing and Stanley / Stella as providers, because they place the respect of workers and the environment at the center of their concern. They guarantee the sustainability of their models and the traceability of their production chains, as can be attested by the labels which certify them.
Global Organic Textile Standard
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.
Fair Wear Foundation
Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) is a European initiative, which strives to set up fair working conditions in the garment industry worldwide. FWF verifies effective establishment of the code of conduct by its member companies and their
suppliers.
The member companies commit themselves to respect the following labor standards:
• Employment is freely chosen
• No discrimination in employment
• No exploitation of child labor
• Freedom of association and right to collective bargaining
• Payment of a living wage
• No excessive working hours
• Safe and healthy working conditions
• Legally binding employment relationship
GRS - Global Recycle Standard
The GRS is an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions.The GRS is intended to meet the needs of companies looking to verify the recycled content of their products (both finished and intermediate) and to verify responsible social, environmental and chemical practices in their production. The objectives of the GRS are to define requirements to ensure accurate content claims and good working conditions, as much as minimise the harmful environmental and chemical impacts.
Fairtrade
The Fairtrade organization guarantees the payment of a stable and fair price to cotton farmers for their cotton.Making sure it never goes under the market price to allow them to cover their production costs.
The fair trade premium is used to improve living and working conditions of their cooperatives. The Fairtrade organizations supervise and verify these community’s projects.
Carbon Trust
The Carbon Trust is a not-profit company with the mission to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy, providing specialist support to business and the public sector to help cut carbon emissions, save energy and commercialize low carbon technologies. By stimulating low carbon action they contribute to key UK goals of lower carbon emissions, the development of low carbon businesses, increased energy security and associated jobs.
Okeo-Tex
Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is a standardized worldwide testing and certification system for textile products at all stages of the process. This label shows that the product complies to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 criteria. The pollutant tests cover
substances which are prohibited and regulated by law, chemicals which are known to be harmful for our health and parameters for health protection.
Protection of the farmer, the spinner, the weaver, the couturier, the tanner,… From the dignity of wages to those of working conditions… Protection of the health of the workers but also of the one who wears the clothes…Protection of the soil, water, animals, and ecosystem that live there…
